The hope and joy his devotees raise at a fleeting vision of him on the big screen during Chennai Super Kings' innings explodes in a supernova of ecstasy when, eventually, he comes in to bat. The feeling of it is a wonder of the age, even when seen and heard from the other hemisphere by the most agnostic of neutrals.

To think this steepling whoop of happiness has been created by the smattering of Dhoni's disciples who are in the ground is sobering: consider the quake that would shake if all of them were gathered together. To think he has been adulated in this year's IPL like no other player might make us think those fans are drunk: Dhoni is among the tournament's most under-worked players, at least as a batter.

Moeen Ali comes out of Test retirement, added to Ashes squad

Moeen Ali had retired from Test cricket in September 2021, but has now agreed to make a return © Getty England have added Moeen Ali to the squad for the first-two Ashes Tests at Edgbaston and Lord's, a decision that brings the 35-year-old all-rounder out of Test retirement. Moeen, who had brought the curtains down on his England Test cricket at the end of the 2021 season, was coerced back into the setup following discussions with captain Ben Stokes, head coach Brendon McCullum and Managing Director of England Men's Cricket Rob Key. The decision to reinstate Moeen comes  in the wake of the back injury  to first-choice spinner Jack Leach, who was ruled out of the marquee five-match series earlier in the week. A video of a group of girls recording a reel and dancing inside a train has gone viral online. The video shared on the microblogging site Twitter by a user named Vaidehi shows a gang of girls can be seen dancing to a trending song inside the train while other passengers watch them. "Bhai mere se train mein logo ke aage khana bhi khaya nhi jata (Brother, I can't even eat food in front of people in the train)," read the caption of the video shared by Vaidehi. The video opens to show a girl grooving on the upper berth of the train compartment. In a few seconds the camera moves to another girl standing in the passageway and then towards a girl on the upper berth of the left side of the seat and finally to a group of girls in the entire compartment.
